Data Integration at Networkshop 40 – a modern retro presence

Earlier this month, following on from their success at UCISA, Data Integration, an Xchanging company, exhibited at Networkshop 40 at the University of York.

Networkshop is the ‘must attend technical conference of the year for staff in education and research’ and as one of the UK’s leading networking, security and communication technology providers, Data Integration are the perfect fit for the sector.

Along with the standard form filling and planning, a successful exhibition requires captivating graphics and strong messaging – and this is where we come in to our own (OK, just a bit modest!). Using the same process as the UCISA event, we started our ‘creative bit’ by scamping out some ideas.

For this event Data Integration used a 4 x 3 pop up stand. Amongst the early ideas for the graphics were an A Team style identity and a Fantastic Four comic book style graphic (any excuse to trigger those iconic images from the audiences childhood!).

The idea that was chosen to be developed further was still based on the retro side of things, except it concentrated on how technology has changed over the years. We used illustrations of classic tech, like a 1st gen mobile phone, a cassette player, a camera and a floppy disc, amongst many others. Add in some bright colours from the corporate colour palette and you’re left with a very striking, contemporary looking graphic with its roots in a load of retro loveliness from the world of technology.

The stand was finished off with a matching bin wrap that just helped pull it all together.

The event was held at the University of York, so we delivered and erected (oooo-er!) the day before the exhibition kicked off. We even took along a classic football table, 2 remote control helicopters and two boxes of crème eggs (delivered intact and without a single egg missing!) just to add that little something extra that would draw visitor eyes ‘our way’.

The show was a great success, and as we like to measure our effectiveness, we were very pleased that the Data Integration team raised their brand profile and came away with a number of good business leads.

Here’s the stand a few pictures from the event…
