Best practice images for e-commerce websites

Great article on Webcredible about the use of images on e-commerce sites.

I especially like number six about the scale issue, which was pointed out to me recently regarding a solution I have worked on.

Well worth reading my friends….

This Week At The Escape

Sorry, we have been a bit rubbish recently posting our own news. I could say it’s the old ‘treat ‘em mean, keep ‘em keen’ routine” but I would be lying - we have just been a little busy.

So, to this week… A small feeder site for Corrosion Training went live for MPI after the success of their Marine Diplomas site. We have also been racking up some nice smaller projects after a large website we are working on got postponed until January. This is good news as it will be a more strategic led presence across a number of sites.

We also started on a website for BT Headsets as we have nearly completed version 2 of our e-commerce solution. We are very excited about this product as it is very powerful in terms of running an online shop with so much more scope to develop a more comprehensive experience for customers. For starters, it’s full content-managed, allowing you to add all sorts of ‘other’ content away from the shop section.

We have also started our Christmas campaign project for 2007, which will be online, and it’s had us laughing this morning - watch this space.

Oh, and a cat joined our Facebook Group.

How to get the best out of your web agency

I usually rant on my own blog, but this one deserves the company treatment because it relates to a positive client experience you may get something from.

A couple of months ago, we took on a new client who we created a new website for. It’s early days on how well it’s doing but I have two comments as to why it will ultimately be successful.

Expertise

This is probably one of the first clients who has come to me and said something along the lines of… “you guys know what you’ll doing, I’ll leave it all up to you”.

And, he’s been true to his words. We defined some KPIs for the website together, then the rest was left to us: Design, words, structure and message. Approval was needed for the creative, but the rest was left to us.

Feedback

One month into the live site, we are getting constructive feedback from the client. This sounds obvious, but still so many people see creating a new website as something they’d like to get done and forget about and not even measure in any way.

We set up specific goals in Analytics so we know what’s working and what needs optimising, but we also get personal feedback from the client on what they have had from the site too. Some people may go to the website and then call them, for instance.

This gives us a much better understanding of what to focus our attentions on as we continue to develop and optimise the site.

What’s more, with carte blanche to make the website work, we know where we stand. We need to make the site perform with that extra trust placed.

The client has put their money where their mouth is and so have we.

So, if you want to get more from your agency, find one who will take on the challenge… and then challenge them and stand out the way.
