You Will Like Me… You Will Like Me

A surefire way of getting on someones nerves (especially mine) is to keep trying to sell (or market) to them when they don’t want to be sold (or marketed) to.

Bleedin’ common sense, isn’t it.

So, when I get an e-shot (again) from a company I (a) don’t want; and (b) have already unsubscribed from, it ticks me off.

Step up to the plate, Printing.Com, who are doing this to me. Don’t get me wrong, they are a great company and if I needed their services again, I would use them. The point being, it’s my choice. But, I know how I want to control that relationship and part of that includes not receiving e-mails every month trying to sell me stuff I don’t need.

What makes this worse (and I am only highlighting it so we all may learn) is that they have a button on the bottom of their e-mail with the phrase:

If you would prefer not to receive mailings from us, unsubscribe here (please remember to include your postcode)

Oh. So I press the link, thinking it will be a form with a field saying postcode and what happens? It just creates a new e-mail for me. So, what next? Where to a put my post code. What should I type in the Subject Line? Past experience suggests I should write UNSUBSCRIBE but… I am left guessing. I feel a wee bit stupid for “not getting it” and annoyed because I know what’s coming next month… another e-mail I don’t want.

Found this article today that kind of proves the point of getting it right - personalised marketing:
